Dear Parents,

    On behalf of the entire staff, I heartily welcome you and your child to Sea Road School and look forward with pleasure to working with you in making this year a happy one, rich with new experiences.   

    Sea Road School’s fundamental mission is to ensure that all students continually strive for academic excellence and are given the opportunity to develop intellectually, emotionally, socially, and physically in a safe and nurturing environment.   The staff and administration at Sea Road School have high standards and expectations that encompass all students being active learners who demonstrate respect for self and others

    We believe a public school must be a place where all can be served – a place where a range of intellectual, physical, and emotional needs of people can be recognized.    Our focus will be on the continued modification of our programming to reflect an understanding of the relationship between the physical, emotional, and intellectual factors of the learning process.

    In much the same way that we look for growth in each child over time, we should also look for growth in terms of our school.   We believe that school improvement is a process as opposed to an event.   Improvement is enhanced when a blueprint for growth is created which is reflective of a comprehensive approach to school renewal; one that pulls together the essential elements of an effective school, and makes them available to every child.  The most essential component of an effective school – the one idea that holds it all together – is best described by the simple word connections.

    The Sea Road  School will be effective by connecting people to create community.   We will be an effective school by connecting the curriculum and thereby achieving coherence.   Our classrooms will become even more effective as we connect them to a wide array of resources that will enrich our climate.   Finally, we will connect learning to life, helping to build character.

    These four priorities – community, coherence, climate, and character – are the building blocks for and effective school.   I, along with the staff look forward to learning and growing right along side you and your children.
